About the Author

Adel Safty was born in Egypt and educated in France and England before becoming university professor in North America. He holds an undergraduate Bachelor degree in English and French literature from the University of Paris III, France, and a Bachelor Degree in Law, Honours, from the University of London, England. He also holds Master’s Degrees in Political Sociology and in Political Science and a Doctorate Degree in Political Science from the University of Paris I, Sorbonne, France.

Dr. Safty is also a graduate of the Leadership Programme of the Center for Creative Leadership (Greensboro, NC. USA), and a graduate of the JFK School of Government Leadership Programme of Harvard University.

Dr. Safty served as a tenured university professor and as Director of the government-funded Institute of International Studies in British Columbia, before joining the United Nations as a diplomat. Professor Safty is author and editor of 12 books. Among his publications, his book From Camp David to the Gulf (Black Rose, University of Toronto Press, Montreal and New York, 1992) was selected Publisher’s Choice in 1993 and a second edition appeared in 1997.

Prof. Safty served as Head of United Nations Mission, and President of the United Nations Leadership Conferences in the late 1990s that brought together distinguished leaders and delegates from over 100 countries. In 1997, Prof. Safty established the first ever UNESCO Chair in Leadership. In 2002, he established the second UNESCO Chair and was named Permanent UNESCO Chair in International Leadership.
